FUSAICHI PEGASUS – BLUE WHALE, BY CREATIVE CAUSE
After collecting two wins and two seconds on the track, Blue Whale (Creative Cause / Lee Ann W, by Mr. Greeley) was retired to the breeding division of Circle 8 Ranch in 2019. In 2020, she was one of only two mares who were bred to Kentucky Derby Winner Fusaichi Pegasus (Mr. Prospector – Angel Fever, by Danzig) – before he was pensioned from stallion duty at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud in Kentucky. Fusaichi Pegasus was the final active stallion by the great Mr. Prospector in Kentucky. As a first-year stallion in 2001, his opening stud fee was an impressive $150,000.
As a stallion, Fusaichi Pegasus is represented by 86 stakes winners, including 30 graded/group stakes winners worldwide, and has progeny earnings of more than $110 million. He is the sire of Australian Champion Haradasun, a multiple Group 1 winner on his native continent and of the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at the Royal Ascot meeting in England. Fusaichi Pegasus is also the sire of Chilean Champion Bronzo, Puerto Rican Champion Fusaichiswonderful, Peruvian Champion Ole Pegasus, and Mexican Champions Ketal and Vistoso. In the U.S., Fusaichi Pegasus’s top runners include Gr.1 Winner and Classic Sire Roman Ruler, as well as Gr.1 Winners Bandini and Champ Pegasus.
Blue Whale’s sire, Creative Cause (Giant’s Causeway / Dream of Summer, by Siberian Summer) was a force on the racetrack with $1,039,000 in earnings while staying in the money with 9 out of 10 starts. He was a Gr.1 Winner of the Norfolk Stakes, and a multiple Gr.2 Winner of the Best Pal Stakes and the San Felipe Stakes. He also placed in the Gr.1 Del Mar Futurity, the Gr.1 Santa Anita Derby, and the Gr.1 Preakness Stakes.
